Three straight losses for the Gold Coast SUNS mean tough decisions will be made at the selection table this week.
There is a growing feeling teenage sensation Jack Martin will be rushed straight back into the senior team after his lengthy injury lay-off, however, given the importance of the clash against Geelong, coach Guy McKenna will consider a long list of names in order to get his best 22 on the park.
#4 Jack Martin
Martin performed well at today’s main training session at Metricon Stadium and the 19-year-old looks a strong chance for a shock recall to the seniors after suffering a shoulder injury against Richmond in round one.
What they said…
"We'd be confident he can get through and play at the level, it's just a matter of … is it a risk we take with him or not?"
- GC SUNS GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft
#21 Jeremy Taylor
Taylor has been a consistent performer at NEAFL level throughout the 2014 season and continues to press his claims for a senior berth.
What they said…
“Ran hard into open space, and even got forward and converted a goal. He is becoming more consistent with his performances each week.”
- GC SUNS reserves coach, Josh Fraser
#27 Clay Cameron
Cameron went back to the NEAFL after the SUNS’ loss to the Sydney Swans and performed a defensive- stopping job, collecting 12 disposals, six marks and a handful of rebound 50s against NT Thunder.
What they said…
“Competed strong one-on-one against his assigned opponent and definitely found more of a rhythm as the game wore on.”
- GC SUNS reserves coach, Josh Fraser
#37 Jesse Lonergan
Lonergan has now played three games in the NEAFL and ran out the game against the Thunder well, finishing with a team-high 24 disposals, seven tackles and a goal.
What they said…
“Jesse took another step forward in his most recent performance through the NEAFL. He had a good game through the midfield, and ran well in transition. Fully expect a senior opportunity to be on horizon for him."
- GC SUNS reserves coach, Josh Fraser
#40 Sean Lemmens
Lemmens continued on from his 24-possession game against the Swans reserves with 18 touches, five marks, four tackles and three rebound 50s against NT Thunder. Remains solidly in the mix.
What they said…
“Showed some encouraging signs against the Sydney Swans reserves team, defending well on his man and showing that explosive run off half-back which saw him rewarded with a spot in the senior team earlier this year. Is developing nicely for a first-year player.”
- GC SUNS reserves coach, Josh Fraser
