The Gold Coast SUNS have secured selection one in the 2012 trade incentive mini-draft and will select boom West Australian youngster Jack Martin.
Through the same drafting mechanism that saw the SUNS draft Jaeger O'Meara last year, Martin is set to be drafted with the first pick following the trade period.
Martin, a classy goal kicking midfielder, excelled for Western Australia during the Under 18 championships.
Most recruiters believe Martin is on par with likely No.1 draft pick Lachie Whitfield, and his acquisition will be a major boost for the SUNS.
GC SUNS List Manager, Scott Clayton confirmed the news.
We will enter the mini draft with the first selection and will select Jack Martin.
Jack is an exceptional young player, he is an elite inside and outside midfielder, great kick and hits the scoreboard, we are really excited.
To secure the deal, the SUNS have exchanged its first selection (two) in the 2012 NAB AFL draft for selection one in the 2012 GWS GIANTS mini-draft.
The SUNS and Giants have also exchanged compensations picks, that will see the SUNS gain a compensation pick that can be used through until the 2015 draft.
*Similar to Jaeger O'Meara last year, Jack Martin will not be able to play Senior AFL until 2014.
