After kicking AFLW Season Seven off in Hobart last week, SUNS defender Daisy D’Arcy speaks about the increased motivation for the squad to play their first home game of the season at Metricon Stadium this weekend.
“We are glad to be back home to protect the fortress, so it’s good to be back at Metricon,” D’Arcy told SUNS Media.
“It means a lot to us, so we love playing at Metricon. It gives local kids a chance to see what different pathways there are.
“It’s just awesome to see the locals come around. It gives us that extra bit of confidence as well.”
After welcoming new additions to the team, D’Arcy has high expectations for the season, as the team stands stronger than ever before.
“The group feels really good this year and our connection has become a lot better,” said D’Arcy.
“We are definitely keen to play some great football this season and we have been working really hard as a united group.”
D’Arcy explains how confident she is in each player and is looking forward to what the latest recruits, like debutant Jasmyn Smith, can bring to the squad.
“It’s awesome to see her at training because she shows that size mean nothing,” said D’Arcy.
“We love that because when it comes to football it’s not about size, it’s more about skillset and the want to be here.
“She had an outstanding game on the weekend and showed those girls that she is meant to be here.”
