You can now own your own piece of Gold Coast SUNS history by bidding on match-worn and player issued AFLW Pride Guernseys.
Worn by the SUNS AFLW squad in the Round 8 fixture against Melbourne at Metricon Stadium, guernseys from the entire squad are available for bidding with proceeds to be donated to the LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation.
Founder & Managing Director at LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation Ben Bjarnesen says the donations will support the fight against domestic violence in the LGBTQ community.
“It’s tremendous to be working alongside the GC SUNS as the AFLW community celebrates Pride Round,” Bjarnesen said.
“Domestic and family violence is an insidious issue that can affect anyone regardless of their gender, income, occupation, location, race, or religion. LGBTQ people are not immune from experiencing this problem.
“Because the majority of mainstream coverage of domestic and family violence frames the issue as a heterosexual problem, many LGBTQ people feel that what they are experiencing doesn’t fall under the umbrella of domestic violence. Or if they seek help, they either won’t be believed, or support won’t be available.
“Only with the support of the community, such as the proceeds donated through this auction with the GC SUNS, can we ensure there are no invisible victims in the future and that everyone, no matter their sexuality or gender identity can feel seen and believed.”
