Tom Lynch has kicked a clutch goal with just four seconds remaining to snatch Gold Coast a thrilling draw against West Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
The SUNS' stand-in skipper took a magnificent pack mark and then went back and coolly slotted the goal from 35m to level the scores at 12.11 (83) to 11.17 (83).
The siren sounded as soon as the ball was bounced on resumption.
It was a thrilling encounter with five lead changes in the last quarter alone, before Lynch's pressure goal split the points for the first time this seaso
SUNS coach Rodney Eade said he had "reasonable confidence" Lynch would kick his goal.
"It only snuck in but I have confidence in the guy," Eade said.
"It was pleasing for him as captain today to be able to do that.
"The way we have played, especially the last eight weeks, we've hung in there, hung in there - and we hung in there again, and got a half-result.
"From our point of view it's like a win and it doesn't mean much to anyone at the end of the day, but it's reward for their efforts."
West Coast frittered away their chances in the final term particularly, kicking four straight behinds before Lynch's late heroics.
Jack Darling and Mark Hutchings missed gettable set shots and kept the SUNS alive.
Matt Priddis (34 disposals), Luke Shuey (33) and Chris Masten (30) got plenty of the ball for the Eagles.
"We're not happy but you've got to give credit to Gold Coast," Eagles coach Adam Simpson said.
"We kicked ourselves out of it a little bit, but I thought they played better.
"We're really disappointed with the result of the game, but we'll learn from it."
Despite missing their entire starting midfield through injury, the SUNS were magnificent for all four quarters.
They didn't play like a team sitting second last with just two wins.
Brandon Matera and Aaron Hall played their best matches of the season with extra time in the midfield, and Steven May blanketed Suns tormenter Josh Kennedy, keeping him to just two goals.
Jack Martin played his first game since round nine and was influential during the first half, setting up goals for Lynch with deft handpasses.
Rory Thompson hobbled off with an ankle and was subbed at half-time.
