Young Queenslander Jackson Allen experienced the highs and lows of footy in his AFL debut against the GWS Giants in Round 20.

He looked impressive, gathering 15 possessions and was part of the Gold Coast SUNS first win at Metricon Stadium.

Unfortunately, that was the end of his season, as a groin injury required immediate surgery to have him ready for the 2013 season.

Allen says the rehab is going to plan.

"The rehab is progressing pretty well," said Allen.

I am back running and kicking so I should be almost right to start the bulk of the pre-season.

Allen will also head over to Arizona with the squad for their annual high altitude training camp which he is looking forward to.

"Going over to Arizona in a couple of weeks, I really can't wait to get over there," he said.

"It's going to be tough at times I'm sure there will be a bit of fun as well."

With a new High Performance team in place at the GC SUNS, Allen has already noticed the difference and can see the benefits the squad will reap.

There is quite a few changes but you can definitely see how it is going to work for the good of the team, that area of the club has got to the next level and now the boys will have to take the next step over the coming months, he said.

"It's probably going to be a tougher pre-season than we are expecting or use to, but the time has come to step it up."

Despite boasting a 100% winning strike rate in the team (the only player on the list not to experience a loss), Allen said it was just a case of right place at the right time.

"I was pretty fortunate to get a win in the first game, I wouldn't say I am a lucky charm," he said.

"I would definitely love to add to that and get more regular games in the top team."

During the off season, Allen took the opportunity to visit his family and head to the AFL Grand Final, which is an experience he thoroughly enjoyed.

"I got to go down to the Grand Final, and got away to South Australia to see some family," he said

The Grand Final was wicked. The hype around it. I was lucky enough to take my Dad to his first Grand Final and he thought it was unreal.

Allen's goals for 2013 are simple.

"Obviously (I'm aiming for) that first game, and when you get in there to hold your spot and make sure you can play good consistent football for the team," he said.

From a team front we need to keep that momentum going that we built over the final part of the season, and work to get the team further than this year.
