Vice-captain Tom Lynch believes Gold Coast needs to rediscover its form away from home to arrest a six-game losing streak on its travels.
The team started 2014 red-hot on the road, and during that period, the GC SUNS have beaten Geelong, Collingwood and St Kilda at Metricon Stadium, but Lynch said his side needs to bring that level of football with it when it leaves the Gold Coast, starting with Saturday’s must-win clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
“We’ve always wanted to be a hard team to play at home and build that,” Lynch said. “But I think now the next step doesn’t matter where you play, you’ve got to bring the same intensity and same brand.
“That’s definitely been lacking the last few weeks and we get a good show to go down to Melbourne and have a crack.”
After riding high in the top eight for the majority of the season, Lynch has no intention of letting the season slip away, and said there is plenty to motivate his team with a spot in the finals still up for grabs.
“We got two games of footy left. I think we’ve got to finish off the season on a good note. We’ve dropped off the last few weeks.
“I know some guys, probably a lot riding on these last two games for them, personally, so I think there’s plenty to motivate us and play good footy.”
Lynch sits equal-13th on list of the AFL’s leading goalkickers for this season with a career-high 39 majors to his name.
