The Sydney Swans have won their sixth NEAFL match in a row, beating the Gold Coast SUNS by 67 points in their first home game this season.

It certainly wasn’t the welcome home game at Metricon Stadium the Gold Coast was looking for, suffering a 15.17 (107) to 6.4. (40) defeat at the hands of the Swans.

The SUNS started the match extremely well with Peter Wright kicking the first two goals of the match.

However, the Swans returned the favour shortly after with two of their big man – Darcy Cameron and Dean Towers kicking goals to tie the game halfway through the first term.

The Swans took control shortly after and remained in control from the remainder of the match.

The third quarter was their most devastating, kicking 6.5 to 0.2 to take a 58-point lead into the last quarter.

AFL-listed players Nic Newman (31 disposals), Dan Robinson (37 disposals) and James Rose (three goals) were damaging.

Sydney won all the key performance indicators, but their contested ball and clearance numbers were particularly impressive.

Academy prospect Caleb Graham, in his second game in the NEAFL this season, was excellent down back for the SUNS, with nine of his 14 possessions contested.

Max Spencer was also good down back for the Gold Coast, and Wright solid with his two early goals and 22 disposals.

The SUNS were unable to recreate what happened in Round 4 against the Swans, becoming the third victim in succession to suffer a defeat to Sydney when the Swans have travelled interstate.

The Swans will have the bye next week, before they play the Lions in Sydney in two weeks, while the SUNS play Sydney University at BISP next Saturday.
