The Gold Coast SUNS have two confirmed debutants who will run out for the Round 1 match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium this Sunday.

Jack Lukosius will make his debut for the club after a strong summer and impressing in his JLT games. 

Fellow South-Australian and mature-age recruit Chris Burgess will also pull on the red and gold for his debut game, named at full forward.

The pair will work in the forward half to support spearhead Peter Wright who will play his 50^th AFL game.

“It’s fantastic news for the footy club and really good for those two boys to experience their first AFL game and be able to then share that with their friends and families,” Senior Coach Stuart Dew told SUNS Media.

“They obviously came into the club at the end of last year and we’ve really been impressed with what they’ve been able to bring not just on the field but off the field as well. 

“It’s a bit of reward for effort and I’m sure those boys are going to do us proud.” 

Another first-year draftee Ben King has been named on the extended interchange bench of eight, which will be trimmed to four on Friday evening.

Five more will play their first game for the SUNS after coming to the club in the NAB AFL Trade period last year.

Sam Collins, Jordan Murdoch and Jack Hombsch make up a new-look back six which also includes ready-to-go vice-captain Pearce Hanley. 

George Horlin-Smith and Anthony Miles have also been named to add some experience and depth in the midfield.

After a fractured leg ended his 2018 AFL season prematurely, small forward Darcy Macpherson will make a return to senior football in the forward line.

Second-year defender Charlie Ballard will start in the back pocket while fellow 2017 draftee Wil Powell is a chance to be named in the final side after sending a strong message to the selection committee with eye-catching performances in the JLT Series.

First bounce is at 1:10pm AEDT this Sunday at Marvel Stadium.
