Open space in the West, a blessing for goal sneak Hall
While most AFL players have to adjust their style of play accordingly when travelling across the country to take on the West Coast Eagle’s, Aaron Hall’s explosive speed and chase will be well suited to Patersons Stadium’s lengthy playing surface.
Measuring 177m in length and 122m in width, “Subiaco” is the longest ground in the AFL premiership, making it the perfect hunting ground for the zippy small-forward who relishes the chance to play in open space around goals.
For the 22-year-old Gold Coaster, Patersons Stadium provides an opportunity for Hall to return to the form that resulted in him finish with an impressive finish goal haul against Hawthorn at the MCG earlier this year.
“I’m certainly looking forward to getting over there and playing on the big ground,” he said.
“There’ll be plenty of space to run with the ball and hopefully I can make the most of the opportunity.”
Bolstered with a host of All-Australian talent, Hall says the Gold Coast won’t be underestimating the enormous task that awaits them in the West – despite John Worsfold’s playing group having won just two of their nine home games so far this season.
“We know their side and the quality that runs through their lines,” he said.
“Probably injuries have depicted where they could be on the ladder and we’ve got the utmost respect for them and will be going into the contest with 100% effort.”
After having produced three impressive quarters of football against Hawthorn and Geelong across foreign borders earlier this year, Guy McKenna will be hoping his Gold Coasters can go one step further when they battle it out in the west on Saturday.
“If we can stick to our structures and play the game the way we want to play then hopefully we can give it a real hot-crack and come away with the win.”
