Karmichael Hunt has escaped with a jarred toe after a gridiron mishap over the Christmas break and is hoping to begin running by Friday.

Contrary to reports on Thursday that he had broken his toe, Gold Coast told AFL.com.au there was no fracture.

Hunt was playing gridiron with brother-in-law Scott Harding, a former Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide player and now University of Hawaii gridiron star.

"Karmichael jarred his toe over the break. After completing some of the running during the first week back his toe became inflamed and he was sent for x-rays," a Suns spokesman said on Thursday.

"The scans confirmed no break, however to allow the swelling to subside Karmichael has been restricted to light duties for a few days.

"He is hoping to resume running as early as tomorrow."

Hunt, 27, has played 43 games in the Suns' three seasons after crossing to the AFL following a stellar career in rugby league and rugby union.
