The Gold Coast SUNS will have to make a decision on whether to bid for Jack Viney during the Father-Son Bid Meeting on Monday
SUNS List Manager Scott Clayton would not be drawn on the club using its No.2 NAB AFL Draft pick for Melbourne's father-son prospect Jack Viney.
If either the SUNS or GWS choose to bid for Viney, the Demons would need to use its No.3 pick to secure the son of its recruiting manager Todd.
Clayton said a decision on Viney was yet to be made, but he said the tough midfielder was sure to have a great career.
"He is certainly in that first group from (pick) two to six and seven I would think," Clayton said.
Everyone has known the rules as well as Melbourne and him, so there can be nothing guaranteed. We will make the best decision for us and Melbourne will make the best decision for them and that is just the nature of it.
"As much as his family has been very Melbourne…as I said before things change."

Kevin Sheehan says: “Left-footed small inside midfielder who attacks the ball with ferocity and tackles strongly. Was prominent for SA at NAB AFL Under 16 level in 2010 before shifting back to Victoria and playing for Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships in 2011. Signed father/son to Melbourne, where father Todd played. Played the last two NAB AFL Under 18 Championship matches for Vic Metro, this year averaging 17 disposals and four clearances.”
How the Father-Son Bid process works
- Any clubs wishing to nominate eligible players as a father / son selection for this year's 2012 NAB AFL Draft must do so by 2pm this Friday, October 5.
- The bidding meeting for any nominated players will be at 10am on Monday October 8 at Etihad Stadium.
- Each other club in the competition has the option to bid, in reverse ladder order, for that nominated player. If a bid is made, the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain hold on that player. If the club nominating the father-son player declines to match the selection nominated, the club with the successful bid must use that selection at the Draft. Any club that makes a successful bid on a father-son selection is bound to the pick they nominate. If no bid is made by another club, the club that nominated the father-son eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the draft to select the player.
