When the final siren sounded at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night, it marked the end of another chapter for the Gold Coast SUNS. Season 2016 drew to a close, another tough year for the SUNS in terms of win-loss record.
But despite the club registering just six victories for the season, there was major upside from the campaign according to assistant coach Ashley Prescott.
Youngsters like Touk Miller and Brayden Fiorini thrived in the midfield under increased responsibility while leadership and culture inside the four walls at Carrara grew enormously once again.
“There was some huge positives,” Prescott told reporters on Monday afternoon.
“The emergence of some young players. You look at Brayden Fiorini the way he finished off, another player that came in.
“Sensational to be able to expose and give those sort of players an opportunity and that’ll give them a real taste moving forward.
“While the win-loss wasn’t great, again from a leadership point of view, from a cultural point of view and also from a game style point of view, the club made some great strides.”
