Tickets are now on sale for the Gold Coast SUNS’ two 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership season matches to be held in Darwin.
The SUNS return to the Territory in 2024 to face North Melbourne at TIO Stadium on Saturday, May 11 before welcoming Geelong to the same venue five days later on Thursday, May 16. Both matches begin at 7pm local time.
The clash against the Cats will see the SUNS kick off Sir Doug Nicholls Round in the primetime Thursday night slot.
Tickets can now be purchased through Ticketmaster. Guaranteed access to see the SUNS in Darwin is also available with SUNS Territory memberships, available from just $55.
Fresh from signing a four-year extension that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2028, SUNS AFL player and Territorian Joel Jeffrey hopes to plenty of red and gold in the stands.
“The opportunity to return to Darwin is always a special one, especially for the players from the Northern Territory,” Jeffrey said.
“We love playing at TIO Stadium in front of our Territory SUNS members and supporters. Our record there speaks for itself with four wins in the last two seasons.
“It’s also an important opportunity for us to spend time with the local communities and play our part in hopefully inspiring the next generation of SUNS players from the Northern Territory.
“We hope to see plenty red and gold in the stands once again.”
In collaboration with Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC), the Northern Territory Government and the AFL, the SUNS last month confirmed it will host two matches in the NT each year over the next three years.
“Some of Australia’s finest AFL players are from the Territory, and we’ll have the opportunity to see them play on home soil alongside their proud family and friends. This also helps up-and-coming Territory players see a pathway for them to achieve their footy dreams,” Northern Territory Chief Minister and Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles said.
“Meanwhile, interstate footy fans can travel to the NT to support their team, then stay onto explore the region and enjoy our unique tourism experiences. We’ve got World Heritage sites, stunning waterholes, amazing wildlife encounters, a strong Indigenous culture and plenty more.
“In addition, the Darwin Territory AFL games will take place a bit earlier than usual next year, supporting the shoulder season and getting the Top End’s major events season off to a great start.”
