The SUNS will be without Maddy Brancatisano and Meara Girvan this weekend after the pair sustained injuries in last week’s match simulation against the Brisbane Lions.
“Maddy unfortunately suffered an ankle injury in our match against the Lions. She’s had an MRI, will go through a few weeks of rehab and we’re hoping for a return early in the season,” GC SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Jasmine Herlihy said.
“Meara also came off with a shoulder injury and she too has been sent for an MRI. She will now go through a rehab process and also target a return early in the season.”
Key defender Vivien Saad was unavailable for the clash against the Lions, and will also miss the upcoming match as she continues her recovery from a hamstring injury.
“Viv sustained a hamstring strain and has been in rehab now for a few weeks. She’s looking at a return in the first couple of rounds of the season.”
In positive news, Lucy Single and draftee Keely Fullerton are targeting a return to action this weekend against the Bulldogs.
“Unfortunately, both Lucy and Keely sustained concussions in our intraclub match a fortnight ago. They’ll look to train fully on Thursday, if they get through main training then they will be available for selection in our practice match.”
Saturday’s practice match gets underway at 5pm. Entry to People First Stadium is included with a ticket to the AFL match against Melbourne or free entry applies following full-time in that match.
