On a day where forecasters were expecting more than 100mm of rain across the Gold Coast, the difficult decision was made to cancel the club’s ‘Family Night Out’ event on Friday.
The event is an important one not only for the SUNS, but all junior football clubs across the Coast who have traditionally signed up a large number of players on the day.
With the event being cancelled, GC SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans confirmed that the club is looking to schedule another activity for fans before the season kicks off.
“We will look to do something by the way of a supporter event somewhere, so stay tuned for that,” Evans told SUNS TV.
“Hopefully everybody’s got pencilled in that they can come to our pre-season game at Southport in a couple of weeks’ time.”
Earlier this week, Gold Coast’s 2018 Leadership Group was announced, and Evans is excited about what captains Steven May and Tom Lynch can offer as leaders.
“Well they’re both great leaders in their own right, very different in the way they go about it, but I like the fact you’ve got big strong players at each end of the ground and they started their captaincy journey together last year.
“They are delighted to be leading this club and really excited about the future and been really committed towards that process.”

In just 29 days, the two captains will lead the team out for the club’s season opener at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.
There’s plenty of excitement building as SUNS members and fans get their first look at the team under Senior Coach Stuart Dew.
