It’s been a big couple of weeks for Gold Coast’s Sam Day, who celebrated his 100th game with a victory against Carlton on Saturday afternoon.
That follows his appearance in round one, which marked his comeback from a significant injury suffered during the 2017 pre-season.
The key forward isn’t one to seek the limelight, so he’s pleased to get the win in his milestone game and quickly move the focus on to next week’s game.
“I couldn’t ask for anything better with the boys than having two wins to start the season,” Day told SUNS TV.
“I’m just excited to build on that and have a great year.”
Day has spent time at both ends of the ground during his career but has started this season in the forward.
He has formed a good partnership with captain Tom Lynch and together they provide plenty of headaches for opposition defences.
Although Day didn’t finish with a goal against the Blues, it didn’t seem to matter too much to him as his forward line partner went on to kick eight.
“(He was) Awesome as always…I think we’ll see plenty of that from Lynchy.
“I just love playing with him. I think we’ve got a really good synergy going and we’ll build on that for the season.”

To mark his milestone game, Day had plenty of family in attendance who were there to celebrate the occasion with him.
They have supported him throughout his career, but it has been particularly important in recent times as he battled back from injury.
“It’s great to see all my family, they mean a lot to me.
“Especially over the last 12 months, with the journey I’ve been through with my rehab so it’s amazing to have them all here.”
