The Gold Coast SUNS today formally announced its partnership with the Gold Coast Community Fund at the Southport Sharks, in front of over 150 people from various charity groups from all over the Gold Coast, that will see the two entities come together and join forces to benefit those in need on the Gold Coast.
The partnership forms a strong union between the AFL Club and one of the most reputable Community Funds on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Community Fund’s strong track record speaks for itself, where the fund has raised and distributed a massive 1.2 million dollars to Gold Coasters in need over the past 10 years.
The Gold Coast SUNS in November 2011 were also acknowledged for their efforts in the Community, last year winning the Mayors Award at the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility in their first season in the AFL.
The two entities aren’t strangers to each other either, having worked closely as part of the spectacular White Christmas Charity Event over the past two Christmas’ which has seen more than 6000 of the most needy Gold Coasters experience a once in a lifetime night and has seen close to $100,000 raised for the Club’s 10 charities and the Gold Coast Community Fund in this time.
Gold Coast Community Fund Chairman Simon Bennett said “The GC Community Fund is committed to helping Gold Coasters in need and seeing how much work the GC SUNS do in the community and their commitment to this work, we saw this as a perfect fit.”
Gold Coast SUNS player Karmichael Hunt has thrown his weight behind the partnership, joining Olympic Triathlete Emma Snowsill as joint Ambassador for the Community Fund.
Hunt, who was involved in a presentation to one of the young families 18 months ago, saw first hand how much of a difference the funds and support from the Gold Coast Community Fund made to those in the Gold Coast Community.
Hunt said “After going out one day and assisting in the launch of the White Christmas Charity Event at one of the GC Community Funds beneficiary’s houses, it made me start thinking about how we can assist more.
“For me anyway that I can assist, I am keen to do that and this Ambassador role is certainly one way I believe I can get involved and genuinely contribute.”
