For the sixth consecutive year, the home of the Gold Coast SUNS, Metricon Stadium, will play host to the 11th annual Homeless Connect event on Wednesday 1st August, after the donation drive was launched today at the stadium in preparation for the event.
Homeless Connect allows Gold Coasters who are homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless to get in touch with a variety of community services, including health and wellbeing, legal advice and counselling.
Those attending will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of benefits including haircuts, manicures and other essential services.
This event is an initiative of the Gold Coast Homelessness Network and is proudly supported by the Gold Coast Community Fund & Gold Coast SUNS in conjunction with many other local businesses and supporters.
The Homeless Connect event is an important fixture in the GC SUNS’ calendar each year and one that the everyone in club looks forward too, according to the club’s chief executive, Mark Evans, who stressed the importance of the club being able to represent the Gold Coast community with pride.
“We want the Gold Coast Community to be proud of Metricon Stadium and we hope that by holding events like Homeless Connect we can inspire the people of the Gold Coast,” Evans said.
“It’s our ninth year supporting the Homeless Connect, and the sixth consecutive year the event has been hosted at Metricon Stadium.”
“We’ve been on record, declaring our commitment to tackling the issue of youth homelessness in our city since our inception into the AFL over eight years ago and we won’t waver in our approach to investing heavily in this space.”
“The club will continue to embrace our role as community leaders, driving positive social change through the Horizon’s community program volunteering more than 35,000 hours of community support since securing an AFL license.”
Gold Coasters are encouraged to donate items such as clothing, shampoo & conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, face washers and bath towels, youth, children and baby clothing, shoes, bottled water, canned goods and snacks
