As the Gold Coast SUNS continue their work in the Indigenous space, one name remains a constant.
Luther Cora, who celebrates his 40th birthday on Tuesday, has been an integral part of the club’s cultural growth since 2014.
Each season, during Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the local Yugambeh man’s design is worn proudly by the players on the SUNS’ guernsey
Cora works closely with our indigenous players to design the guernsey, with the club engaging him as a sign of respect and recognition for his contribution to our players, staff, broader club and the Gold Coast community.
One of the most notable achievements took place in August 2017, when Gold Coast launched their Reconciliation Action Plan, with Cora a key member of the committee working group.
He’s an ever-present source of cultural advice, with his mentorship of the club’s indigenous players highly valued.
Many members and fans would have noticed Cora on match day, where he performs the Welcome to Country at selected home matches throughout the season.
From everyone at the Gold Coast SUNS, happy birthday Luther!
