MULTICULTURAL Ambassadors Karmichael Hunt and Joel Wilkinson welcomed over 100 charity and community partners to an informative breakfast for the third annual Gold Coast SUNS Diversity Breakfast at Metricon Stadium yesterday morning.

The passionate AFL stars were on hand to meet and greet with each of the event’s attendees, before taking the stage for an interactive panel discussion where they detailed their cultural background and involvement in the AFL’s multicultural space.

Discussions quickly began highlighting the various opportunities aimed towards engaging culturally diverse markets around South East Queensland, and GC SUNS Community Programs Manager Corey Bell commended the efforts from those behind-the-scenes that made the event possible.

“Certainly the players and staff have done an amazing job in the community this year, with the club currently sitting around the 4,000 hours mark which began just before Christmas,” Bell said.

“We will go pretty close to the next month towards achieving the magical 5,000 hours in the community which I think is a great testament to the amount of work the players and staff do on the Gold Coast.”

Bell welcomed the event into its third year.

“We’re really pleased to celebrate and acknowledge the work the club does in the community, as it really gives us a chance to bring a lot of our community partners together and share all the experiences we have created in the past twelve months, and some of the programs we plan on implemented over the next year,” said Bell.

Never ones to disappoint, the former Brisbane Bear said Hunt and Wilkinson’s passionate attitudes towards community engagement shone through this morning’s panel discussions.

Bell believes the dynamic duo are creating significant change in their respective fields.

“Both Karmichael Hunt and Joel Wilkinson do some amazing work in the multicultural space and certainly to have them speaking about the multicultural programs is exciting for the club.”
