Rodney Eade says Gold Coast's leaders must stand up if the SUNS are to right their wobbling season.

Following losses to Port Adelaide and Melbourne in recent weeks, the SUNS sit at 3-6 ahead of Saturday's home match against West Coast.

Eade praised his team's leadership group – saying Tom Lynch, Steven May and David Swallow were among its fiercest competitors - but said the SUNS needed more when momentum was against them.

"We're a young team, (a) young leadership group and we need to improve in those areas," he said.

"We tend to wait to a break, where they need to be able to address that.

"As coaches we need to take some responsibility about how we put that message across."

After leading Melbourne by 30 points midway through the third quarter last Saturday, Gold Coast conceded 14 of the last 18 goals of the match.

The SUNS have shown steel throughout the season, steadying after a Geelong comeback in round seven, but have been unable to stem similar onslaughts against the Power and Giants.

"It's more about their mindset at the particular time that it happens," Eade said.

"At times when things get a bit rocky we need to put some things in place.

"We need some leaders to stand up, and also those middle tier players."

Gold Coast will regain experienced duo Gary Ablett (shoulder) and Matt Rosa (concussion) to play the Eagles, after both got through Thursday's main training session.
