By 11am on Thursday morning, Metricon Stadium had been lashed by over 110mm of rain with ex-tropical cyclone Debbie pushing into Southeast Queensland and bringing wild weather with it.
Flash flooding swept across the region with other professional sporting teams, including the Gold Coast Titans and Brisbane Lions, forced to cancel their scheduled training sessions as a result.

At Carrara, the Gold Coast SUNS were still able to complete a modified training session, comprising of work inside the adjacent indoor basketball stadium before spending a short amount of time outside braving the elements.
“Obviously there’s a lot of flooding around the Gold Coast. We were told earlier we could get on the ground but that was flooded,” coach Rodney Eade told SUNS TV on Thursday.
“So we did a bit indoors at the basketball stadium. Then we did a little bit of touch work and a bit of body work on our synthetic grass that we’ve got here so we were able to touch the balls but we’ll do a little bit more when we get to Sydney.
“Generally the run in Sydney is a really light run so we’ll probably add another 10 to 15 minutes to that.”
As a result of the extreme weather conditions the GC SUNS Elite Training & Administration base is closed, with all enquiries to be addressed on Friday when the Admin team returns.
