There’s an undeniably tight bond between the playing group at the Gold Coast SUNS, with strong friendships existing across the entire list.

First-year players Callum Ah Chee, Josh Schoenfeld and Jesse Joyce are extremely close, with plans to travel together at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Speaking with SUNS TV, Ah Chee said it was ‘amazing’ to run out at AFL level with fellow West Australian Schoenfeld, who made his debut three weeks ago.

“It’s been amazing. Obviously I live with Joshy and we’ve gotten really close over the last few months,” Ah Chee said.

“It’s obviously a great feeling for him and his family and everyone who supports him as well as the club so to run out with him, an amazing feeling and I’m so proud of him.”

Ah Chee has now played six consecutive games with Joyce, three of those wins. Having two of his best mates on the field of battle provides confidence for the 18-year-old.

“As well as running out with Joshy, Joycey’s there as well,” Ah Chee said.

“It’s good to play with these guys consistently and it gives you confidence having them in the team as well playing good football.”

As for his own year, the South Fremantle product has exceeded his own expectations, having played 13 of a possible 19 games in the seniors.

“Coming in first year wanted to play some games like every other first year would,” Ah Chee said.

“But as the season went on it kind of changed and I wanted to start playing consistent football and I’ve started to put bigger expectations on myself.

“Obviously happy with the amount of games I’ve played and (I’m) starting to find consistency in my body now as well as my football.

“Definitely exceeded my own expectations and happy to play the amount of games I have for the club.”
