Gold Coast vice-captain Steven May will face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night after being referred directly by the Match Review Panel following a collision with Brisbane ruckman Stefan Martin in Saturday’s QClash.
May was reported for rough conduct during the second quarter of Saturday’s game at the Gabba.
Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Brisbane Lions Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with severe impact to the head. The incident was referred directly to the Tribunal for its decision. The player has a bad record but no early plea is available.
SUNS GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, said the club would fly to Melbourne for the hearing.
“Steven and the club will fly to Melbourne to face the tribunal on Tuesday evening,” Ashcroft said.
“As has been documented, Steven is extremely remorseful and has already apologised to Stefan for his actions.
“For Stefan’s sake we were pleased to hear today that he had passed a concussion test on Monday morning and that the Brisbane Lions believe he is a good chance to play this weekend.”
