After six consecutive losses, the Gold Coast SUNS reserves are back on the winners list with a hard-fought 12-point victory over the Canberra Demons at Manuka Oval on Saturday.

The SUNS booted seven goals in the final term to overcome a seven-point deficit at the final change, running out 16.13 (109) to 15.7 (97) winners.

The Demons burst out of the blocks with a five goals to zero opening stanza, but the SUNS bounced back with a seven-goal second quarter to take the ascendancy back at the main break.

"We were really disappointed with how we started the game to be five goals down, and then we talked about a few things we had to improve on, and our second quarter was terrific," NEAFL coach Stephen Daniel told the Canberra Times.

"They've had some really good starts this year and unfortunately they've given them up, so we knew in the back of our minds even though they started well we thought we might be able to get them.

"For the last three quarters we were really strong over the ball and we were really happy with that because in the first quarter we weren’t.

"We're really happy with the effort."

Seb Tape had 30 disposals, eight clearances, eight inside 50s and two goals for the visitors while Mackenzie Willis collected 29 touches and iced the game at the 33-minute mark of the final term with his solitary major.

Clay Cameron and top-up Zak Saad each booted three goals for the SUNS while the ruck tandem of Dan Currie (48 hitouts) and Keegan Brooksby (17 hitouts) was far too strong for Canberra.
