Defender Kade Kolodjashnij appears a chance to return to the senior line-up after missing the SUNS season opener against Essendon with illness.
The Tasmanian presented to hospital with abdominal pain late last week but is now back at Metricon Stadium and has re-commenced training.
“He’s going really well so he got out of hospital over the weekend,” head physiotherapist Adam Russell told the Optomo Injury Update.
“He did a little bit here yesterday, he’ll do a little bit more of our training session today and we hope he’ll train fully on Thursday.”
The majority of the 22 that took the field against the Bombers on Easter Saturday successfully got through the game unscathed, however young midfielder Touk Miller is set to undergo scans on Tuesday afternoon following a minor ankle sprain suffered in the first quarter.
“He tweaked his medial ankle through the first quarter. He came back off, got re-strapped, went back on,” Russell said.
“Managed to get through the game, which was really good for him. It’s pulled up with a bit of swelling, a bit sore so we’ve managed him in a moon boot.
“He’ll get scanned this afternoon and we’ll just see the extent of that and he’ll be a test on Thursday.”
A nasty clash of heads in the third quarter involving Trent McKenzie and Jesse Lonergan resulted in both players requiring multiple stitches.
Positively, both recovered quickly to re-take their spots on the ground and will be available for the trip to Perth this weekend.
“Yeah it was particularly nasty. They both came off under the blood rule so we spent about 15 minutes having to stitch them up,” Russell said.
“Trent had about five stitches inserted above his eyebrow. Jesse was a little bit more complex so cut through a little bit harder to stitch but both Barry Rigby and Martin Clarke, our game day doctors, did a fantastic job of getting them back so quickly.
“Trent also had a little bit of blurred vision so that’s why he came off and got assessed for concussion which he passed really well so they were able to go back on once they were stitched up.”
Unfortunately the news isn’t as positive for Mitch Hallahan, who will miss the next two months after scans revealed the inside midfielder suffered a foot fracture in the NEAFL practice match win over the Brisbane Lions.
“He had an x-ray on the night at Pindarra which showed he’s got a fracture in his fifth metatarsal, so that’s the bone on the outside of his foot,” Russell said.
“So he’s upsetting our ankle surgeon at the moment, Ben Forster, and unfortunately he’ll get that screwed this afternoon so he’s looking at about eight weeks on the sidelines unfortunately.”
