Gold Coast SUNS vice-captain Tom Lynch had a message for fans on Sunday, telling the Gold Coast Bulletin the team would turn around its form against Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.
“It’s not what we stand for as a club and going forward when we play Melbourne at Metricon Stadium I’d say to the fans we won’t be putting up that effort again,” Lynch told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“We will be a lot harder to play against and we will bring four quarters of effort.
“We owe it to our fans and the Gold Coast community, who have been such great supporters, to serve up better.”
Lynch assured fans the team would learn from the game.
“This loss was an aberration. We will go through a tough review and turn the last couple of weeks around.”
Lynch, who is leading the Coleman Medal with 24 goals, believes it was the worst performance in the club’s history.
“In my opinion it’s the worst loss I’ve been involved with at the footy club,” Lynch said.
“We had a few tough losses in the early days and over the first few years but the expectation this year has risen and we demand more of each other.
“So to put that effort in over the weekend was disappointing. It was definitely unacceptable.
The SUNS play Melbourne at Metricon Stadium at 5:10pm on Saturday.
