Queensland bred Jarrod Harbrow is the fifth uncontracted player to agree to join the Gold Coast SUNS for its inaugural AFL season.

Raised in Cairns, Harbrow, 23, has played 69 games with the Western Bulldogs. A defender/midfielder he was recruited by the Bulldogs and debuted in 2007.

Harbrow is the Gold Coast SUNS fifth uncontracted player to be announced following the signing of Nathan Bock, Nathan Krakaouer, Michael Rischitelli and Campbell Brown.

Gold Coast SUNS CEO Travis Auld welcomed Harbrow and said he was excited the club is able to bring a Queensland player back to the State.

“Having grown up in Queensland’s far north it is really pleasing to have a player of his quality join the Gold Coast SUNS,” he said.

“We are committed to representing our local community and with Harbrow and other Queensland players on our list such as Zac Smith, Charlie Dixon, Lewis Moss and Rex Liddy the State will be well represented in the AFL.

“Harbrow is a fantastic player but he also has strong character which is an important part of building the culture of the Gold Coast SUNS.”

Gold Coast SUNS senior coach Guy McKenna said Harbrow has found his mark as a rebounding damaging defender.

“His defensive work and courage underpin his performance which then lights up with attacking run and carry and sublime skills. In future we may see him spend more time up forward or in the midfield,” he said.
“He is a very popular and respected player because of his desire to succeed, training habits and competitive edge.”

NB: The Gold Coast SUNS has the ability to recruit one uncontracted player from existing AFL clubs under the list build provisions granted by the AFL list build sub-committee.

The Gold Coast SUNS policy remains to not discuss individual players or its recruitment process for uncontracted players. Official announcements on un-contracted players will be made when arrangements have been finalised.
