Aaron Hall will strike a blow for the Gold Coast SUNS ‘newbies’ with his 50th AFL game against the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium in Perth on Saturday night.
Hall will become the club’s 19th player to post his half-century but the first from outside the SUNS’ foundation playing list.
He’ll follow in sequential order Gary Ablett, Jared Brennan, Jarrod Harbrow, Trent McKenzie, Matt Shaw, Danny Stanley, David Swallow, Harley Bennell, Dion Prestia, Michael Rischitelli, Sam Day, Luke Russell, Tom Lynch, Brandon Matera, Zac Smith, Steven May, Rory Thompson and Charlie Dixon.
Having been picked up by the SUNS with the first pick in the 2012 Pre-Season Draft, the 24-year-old Hobart speedster debuted in Round 1, 2012. He played eight games in his first season, a full 22 in his second season and 16 games in an injury-disrupted 2014.
Regardless of the outcome, Hall, already with 19 wins behind him, will be the ‘winningest’ 50-gamer in SUNS history. He’ll better Day, May and Thompson, who presently head that list with 17 wins in their first 50 games.
Lonergan and Schade will play in Perth for the first time as the SUNS prepare to take on an opponent they have not beaten in five meetings at a venue where they’ve not won in six visits.
Jack Leslie, set for his first game of 2015, and Touk Miller will also play in the WA capital for the first time, and Tom Nicholls will play against the Eagles for the first time.
