Star Gold Coast SUNS midfielder Jaeger O’Meara has been awarded a Goal of the Year nomination after his boundary line brilliance topped the opening premiership round.
The on-baller had a game-high 10 tackles to accompany his 22 touches, five marks and five clearances, but it was his magical goal that sent Metricon Stadium into a frenzy.
O’Meara turned on the jets to bulldoze his way alongside the boundary line, before calming slotting through from an acute angle in the forward pocket.
The Gold Coast ball hunter joins Hayden Ballantyne (Fremantle) and Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide) as the three chosen nominees for round one.
AFL fans will be given the chance to vote for their favourite goal each week and automatically go in the running for a weekly cash prize of $200, as well as the major cash prize of $5,000 at the end of the season, thanks to Hungry Jack’s.
Weekly nominees will be selected by the AFL Media editorial team and the weekly winners will be determined by public voting.
Voting opens 12pm each round the day after the last game and will close the night before commencement of the next round (exact days of the week may change depending on fixture).
