The Gold Coast SUNS have landed pick 10 and three second round draft selections, including two future picks, in three-way deal that will see Charlie Dixon join Port Adelaide.

The complex deal also involved the Richmond Football Club.

As a result the GC SUNS receive selections 10 and 31 in the 2015 draft, as well as Port Adelaide’s and Richmond’s future second round picks in 2016, in exchange for Dixon and selections 19 & 49 in this year’s draft.

General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, said the GC SUNS had achieved its objective in the trade, significantly strengthening the club’s position in future drafts.

“We were clear with Port Adelaide from the outset that it would take more than selection 10 to secure a trade for Charlie, and we were looking to generate future currency in the 2016 draft.

“Pleasingly, we have got to a positon where we have significantly strengthened our position for future drafts."

“As a club we have had great success through investing in future picks. This has been highlighted today, as we have used an end of first round compensation pick that we received from the Giants as part of us securing Jack Martin in the GWS’s mini-draft in 2012 to enable us to get our hands on three second round selections in 2016.”

Ashcroft also acknowledged Dixon’s contribution to the SUNS.

“Charlie played a significant part in our establishment, his name appears numerous times in our history books, and as our first ever goal kicker he will forever be associated with our football club, and we wish him and his family all the very best in the future,” he said.

Using the AFL’s Draft Value Index (DVI) as a guide the GC SUNS have exchanged Dixon for an approximate trade value of 2000 points, or the equivalent of selection 4 at the draft.
