It is being hailed as the most successful Big Day Out music festival in years.
Just over 35,000 Gold Coasters celebrated watching headline acts Pearl Jam, Flume and Snoop Dogg at Metricon Stadium and the surrounding Carrara precinct yesterday, with the move from Parkwood Parklands receiving overwhelming praise from patrons, police and organisers.
In fact, the glowing reviews prompted Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit to suggest the event would be a fixed event on the Gold Coast for years to come.
“This was not an experimental at all,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“We have always loved the Gold Coast and… it’s going to be on the Gold Coast for the foreseeable future.”
The extra space, shaded areas and enhanced traffic control Metricon Stadium offers is being credited for the well behaved crowds, with the stadium’s corporate hospitality facilities also adding an unprecedented touch of luxury to the event.
“It’s much better for traffic… there’s a lot of flat grass, big broadleaf trees for shade as well as a great practical and accommodating stadium,” Zammit said.
