Darcy Macpherson has been in strong form to start the season, forming part of a forward line that is relentless in their pursuit of the ball.
Against Carlton on Saturday the intent was clear and the small forward laid 10 tackles himself, to help the SUNS to 93 in total.
Pressure in the forward half is paying dividends on the scoreboard for Gold Coast, with 13 scoring shots (7.6) coming from Blues turnovers.
“That’s what the forwards pride ourselves on,” Macpherson told SUNS TV after the game.
“If we can just keep bringing that heat and bringing those repeat entries, then the defenders love it and we kick goals from it."
For Macpherson, who is now into his third pre-season, it is all about getting the basics right and cementing his spot in the SUNS’ best 22.
Averaging 9.5 tackles per game across the first two games of 2018, he is certainly showing that he is willing to fight to retain his place.
Playing at the feet of captain Tom Lynch couldn’t get much better for a small forward and Macpherson is keen to capitalise on that.

“Another pre-season under the belt, so just fitter, feel stronger and getting my head around the structures.
“Just playing some simple, basic footy.
“Get the basics right and the rest will come from that.”
