First-year livewire forward Jarrod Garlett’s season may still be alive with the excitement machine making good progress with his ankle.
The West Australian underwent a reconstruction after injuring the medial ligament in the Brisbane game at the start of May. But after increasing his workload in recent weeks, Garlett may still return before the year’s out.
“Jarrod Garlett who had his medial ankle reconstructed post Brisbane game is going really well,” GC SUNS head physiotherapist Adam Russell told SUNS TV.
“He saw the surgeon last week and he’s progressed from running on the AlterG Treadmill to running out on the field. So hopefully we’ll get to see him back on the field within a month.”
Wingman Luke Russell will miss up to a month of football after he broke his hand in the final quarter against North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
The injury curse has begun to recede in recent weeks, but Russell’s untimely injury came in his best game of the season. The Tasmanian was prolific in the opening half, providing plenty of drive through the arcs before finishing with a season-high 23 possessions - the second highest tally of his career.
“Luke Russell fractured his hand in the last quarter against North Melbourne,” Russell said.
“He was able to keep playing but subsequent X-rays later that night showed that he had fracture so that was plated on Sunday afternoon. We anticipate at the moment that he will miss about four weeks.”
In better news, experienced utility Jarrod Harbrow is expected to return from an ankle injury that caused him to miss last weekend’s encounter with the Kangaroos.
“Jarrod Harbrow originally hurt his ankle against Freo, and did a pretty good job to get up against Carlton. But he pulled up a little bit sore so he ended up missing last week but he’s ready to go and he’ll play this week,” Russell said.
