An influx of top-end class might return to make the trip south to face Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon, with Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell a chance to return for the Gold Coast SUNS.
Dixon missed last weekend’s 15-point loss against Greater Western Sydney after suffering an ankle injury against the Western Bulldogs, forcing him to be substituted out of that game – the second time in a three-week patch.
Given the medical staff took a cautious approach with Gold Coast’s leading goal kicker for 2015 last weekend, Dixon would appear to be a likely candidate to return after a one game absence.
The game-breaking Bennell returned to the field via the NEAFL last Saturday, getting through unscathed. After serving his club imposed sanction, Bennell demonstrated his class in the reserves 130-point thumping, collecting 37 possessions, seven rebound 50s and six clearances to be a cut above despite the routing.
With Adam Saad set to miss another week with a groin injury, Sean Lemmens might return to provide Gold Coast with some run out of the back half. The South Australian has played a variety of roles this season, and after being sent back to the NEAFL after the Western Bulldogs game, Lemmens’ strong effort may see him be recalled to Eade’s 22.
In difficult circumstances given the onslaught of forward entries by UWS and the one-sided scoreboard, Henry Schade was one of the few players to put his hand up for senior selection. He could come under serious consideration given Adelaide’s tall forward options in Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Tom Lynch.
On his return from a hip injury, Schade performed admirably, especially given the fact he was the only listed player in the back six at times. In the last quarter, Schade went to Giants star Jon Patton, nullifying his influence after the former pick No. 1 had kicked seven.
