The Gold Coast SUNS hardly require any additional motivation to bounce back strongly after a disappointing opening round performance, but they will get one with revered clubman Jarrod Harbrow playing his 150th AFL game against St Kilda.
Harbow is the games record holder at Metricon Stadium with a tally of 79 matches next to his name. The 27-year-old utility and his teammates began the 2015 season in underwhelming fashion by being beaten by perennial cellar dwellers Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of his milestone game against the Saints on Saturday night, Harbrow reflected on how quickly the games have passed since he first debuted in 2007 for the Western Bulldogs – back when Rodney Eade was still coaching at the kennel.
“It does (fly past). I think I played 70 games at the Bulldogs and that seems like it just absolutely zipped past so quickly,” Harbrow told reporters at the SUNS' pool recovery session on Monday.
“I’m still quiet young, I'm pretty sure I’ve got a few more years still in me. Hopefully I can keep the body right, I’ve been pretty lucky with injuries, hopefully I can continue to prepare and play as best as I can each week.”
In typical fashion, Harbrow deflected the significance of the 150 game milestone, saying it will be meaningful for those closest to him, but it will be business as usual come this weekend.
“It’s something my family and probably the footy club will be will be proud of,” he said.
“To be honest, it's just another number for me. I just try and make every game count and I’ll be trying to do my best this week for the team to try and get a win.”
