With the AFL Trade Period commencing at 9AM AEDT on Monday, the rumour mill is running rife around the country with a handful of news outlets linking potential moves in and out of the Gold Coast SUNS.

goldcoastfc.com.au will advise fans of any trade as soon as it has been lodged with the AFL, however below is a summary of what media around the country are reporting.

IN’s

Daniel Currie

The Herald Sun’s Michael Warner reports that North Melbourne ruckman Daniel Currie is set to reignite his career at the Gold Coast SUNS.

With Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith set to depart the club after losing the No. 1 ruck role in 2015, the SUNS are in the market to add a seasoned ruckman to support Tom Nicholls.

Currie has been starved of opportunity at Arden Street, stuck behind All Australian ruckman Todd Goldstein who is widely regarded as the best ruckman in the competition, and someone who doesn’t require a second ruckman in the same side.

The 26-year-old was originally drafted by Sydney in the 2006 National Draft, where he spent five seasons without earning a senior game. The Kangaroos then threw him a lifeline at the end of 2012 after an outstanding season with North Adelaide in the SANFL.

Despite strong form in the VFL for Werribee, Currie has managed only four senior games in three seasons at North Melbourne due to the sustained excellence of Goldstein and Brad Scott’s desire to play only one ruckman.

Warner writes that North Melbourne are keen for Currie to remain at Arden Street, but won’t stand in his way to seek more opportunity elsewhere.

Paul Seedsman

Collingwood defender Paul Seedsman is expected to make a decision on where he plies his trade next year this week.

North Melbourne, Adelaide and the Gold Coast SUNS are reported to be the clubs he is deciding on, according to AFL.com.au.

Seedsman did not attend the Copeland Trophy on Friday night and it’s anticipated he will nominate his preferred destination when he returns from Bali later in the week.

The running defender has played 49 games in five seasons at the Holden Centre. He played ten of the first 12 games of 2015, before falling out of favour with Nathan Buckley, and managing only two games after round 12.

Jeremy Howe

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reports that Melbourne utility Jeremy Howe is being pursued by North Melbourne, Gold Coast and one other unidentified Melbourne based club.

Howe has been used across half-back under Paul Roos, in a role the Tasmanian doesn’t believe is best suited to his game.

It is understood that both the Kangaroos and the SUNS have committed to using Howe as a half forward in the area of the ground that he originally played at Melbourne.

Ralph writes that the Demons would prefer to do a deal with Gold Coast given the club’s strong position in the draft, once the deals for Charlie Dixon, Harley Bennell and Zac Smith are signed and sealed.

Given North Melbourne’s collection of tall forwards, it is understood that the SUNS are in a strong position to lure the Tasmanian north where he can work alongside Tom Lynch in Gold Coast’s forward 50.

Jed Adcock

The Gold Coast Bulletin reports that delisted former Brisbane Lions captain Jed Adcock has been linked to a potential move to the Gold Coast SUNS.

Adcock’s manager, Anthony McConville, believes his client still has plenty to offer to an AFL club, particularly from a leadership viewpoint given his position at the Lions.

“Jed wants an opportunity to show that he has still got good football left to play in the next two or three years,” McConville said.

“He offers strong leadership and the ability to play both forward and back.

“He is a great asset for any club to have and is an outstanding person with high values. He obviously feels like he has a lot of football left in him.”

The 29-year-old was informed by Brisbane in mid-August that he no longer had a future at the Gabba moving forward and has since been rumoured to be in talks with a couple of unnamed clubs.

OUT’s

Charlie Dixon

The Advertiser’s Michelangelo Rucci reports that Port Adelaide will need to deliver more than just pick No. 10 to land Gold Coast’s Charlie Dixon.

It is understood the SUNS want a player packaged in a deal for the power forward who made his decision public to depart Metricon Stadium after Gold Coast’s final game of the season in early September.

Gold Coast football boss Marcus Ashcroft said on the opening morning of the Trade Period that the SUNS want more than just pick No. 10 to get the deal done.

“Today, hopefully we get more of an idea with Charlie,” Ashcroft said.

“They have (put a first-round draft pick on the table) … and we’re still discussing whether that is going to be enough from our point of view.

“We probably think at this point we need more … potentially more a player.”
