2015 has not been the season many hoped for at the Gold Coast SUNS, but despite a lack of wins and a plethora of injuries, Rodney Eade’s side still has plenty to play for in the final chapter of the season.
With two home games remaining at Metricon Stadium against Essendon this weekend and Port Adelaide the following weekend, the SUNS have two great opportunities to win some games late in the campaign.
Injuries have cruelled Eade’s first season at Gold Cost and decimated the side, particularly in the midfield, but in the face of adversity, a handful of players have shown their ability to stand up.
Key position stars Tom Lynch and Steven May have produced stellar second half of the seasons with the former arguably the SUNS' most reliable player all season long. The pair’s last month in particular has been exceptional with Lynch booting 16 goals in that period and May accounting for Adelaide’s Taylor Walker, West Coast’s Josh Kennedy and Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt.
The form of first-year Rising Star nominees, Touk Miller and Adam Saad, has provided a beacon of hope during a tumultuous season at Carrara and the return of first-round draftee Jarrod Garlett is another major point of interest in the last three weeks.
One of the stories of the second half of 2015 has been the revival of Aaron Hall, who has remarkably transformed himself into a midfielder capable of winning the ball in tight and doing damage on the outside.
Emerging rebounding defender Kade Kolodjashnij has been a picture of consistency throughout this season, belying his inexperience to become a vital cog in a new-look back six that is now comprised of Saad and off-season acquisition Nick Malceski.
This season has been extremely tough, but tough times do not last. Come and watch Gold Coast in the final two home games of the season to see the SUNS build momentum into 2016.
