After a thrilling win against West Coast on Saturday night, the SUNS playing group believe they now have a blueprint to replicate in future games this season.

A feature of Gold Coast’s dominant display was the manic pressure on the opposition which didn’t relent for four quarters, something midfielder Lachie Weller says is crucial to the team’s DNA.

“It’s really exciting, that’s the brand that we want to bring every week and it makes us so happy when we bring it,” Weller told SUNS Media post-match.

“We want to hunt around the ball and I think we saw that tonight so we were really pleased with that.

“We know the formula and it works, we just need to hunt around the ball and bring that energy again and things happen for us.”

Second-gamer Matt Rowell was a standout in the win, recording 26 disposals, seven tackles and two goals, including his first major in the AFL.

“It was awesome just to get the win and celebrate with all the boys,” Rowell said post-match.

“It gives us great belief and I was just stoked to play my role, it was a great win. 

“It was a great feeling when I kicked my first (goal), it was just pure enjoyment and excitement and the boys got around me.”

Rowell says the challenge now is to replicate that performance next week against Adelaide, to hopefully record the club’s first-ever win against the Crows.

“There’s always learning and we’ve got to recover well now and the thing is now we’ve got to back up,” he said.

“We’ve had a good win and now we’ve got to go again and keep going every week.”

The SUNS take on the Crows at 1:05pm on Sunday at Metricon Stadium.
