Gold Coast SUNS ruckman Tom Nicholls has successfully undergone surgery to repair damage to his PCL (posterior cruciate ligament).
Nicholls injured his left knee during the 3rd quarter of the GC SUNS’ 43-point victory over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium last week.
The 22-year-old had scans on his left knee in Melbourne on Monday, and following consultation with the club medical staff and specialists, Nicholls opted to undergo surgery.
General Manager - Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, confirmed Nicholls underwent surgery in Melbourne on Saturday.
“Following thorough consultation with specialists, it was determined that the most appropriate way to treat Tom’s injury was through surgery,” Ashcroft said.
“On Saturday Tom underwent surgery on his knee to repair his posterior cruciate ligament. He will remain in Melbourne with his family for the next couple of days, before returning to the club to commence his rehabilitation program.”
Ashcroft reiterated that the exact timeframe that Nicholls will be sidelined would become apparent as he progresses through the rehabilitation program.
