Although his team fell to the Hawks by 53 points at Aurora Stadium on Saturday afternoon, SUNS captain Gary Ablett put in a superb individual performance that will attract the umpires’ attention when it comes to deciding Brownlow votes. Ablett ran rampant, collecting 45 disposals, eight clearances, six tackles, five inside 50s as well as kicking two goals.

He was supported in the midfield by David Swallow (28 possessions, six clearances and 11 tackles) and Jaeger O’Meara (26 possessions, six inside 50s), both of whom battled hard all day.

Tall forwards Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch both booted two goals for the SUNS in trying conditions.
