Whether it’s in the ruck, or as a lead-up key forward, Daniel Gorringe has his sights set on playing consistent senior AFL football this year, and is planning on hitting the ground running with a strong NAB Challenge series.
“The NAB Challenge matches are coming up, and like most boys, my goal is on playing in that pre-season opener against Essendon,” Gorringe said.
Mirroring his impressive 2012 pre-season, Gorringe has been sensational on the training track this summer, showing continued improvement in the endurance testings.
And although the 21-year-old has worked hard on adding more size to his muscular frame, Gorringe still feels his true “strength” lies in his aerobic capacity.
“Personally I find that I am better at the endurance-based stuff, but I am trying to work on my power techniques to help burst out of packs more,” he said.
“I am working towards it but my endurance is still my strength”.
Given his superb pre-season to date, Gorringe is hopeful he is on track for senior opportunities, confident he can build on his strong finish to the 2013 Premiership Season, including a career-best performance against Port Adelaide where he notched 22 disposals and a goal.
Regardless, the 200cm Gold Coaster is determined on making his mark at top grade.
“Obviously we have lots of positions that are covered by quality players already, so I’m just looking for an area that I can help the team,” he said.
“Whatever the position is, I just want to do my best and play my role for the team.”
