WESTERN BULLDOGS legend Luke Darcy has given Gary Ablett a resounding compliment in this week’s edition AFL Access, the former Bulldogs skipper saying the spectacular Gold Coaster has surpassed the likes of Hall of Famers James Hird, Nathan Buckley and three-time premiership captain Michael Voss.
“You can’t go past Ablett, he is the best of the modern midfielders and will finish his career as one of the best of all time,” he told AFL.com.au on Monday.
“He has past them all.”
A Brownlow Medallist, dual premiership player, six-time All Australian, four-time AFLPA MVP winner and consecutive Gold Coast SUNS Club Champion – there isn’t much the little genius hasn’t accomplished, and Darcy believes Ablett has only gotten better since his defection to the Gold Coast.
“When he went up to the Gold Coast everyone was lining up saying “You’ve cashed in.” “You’re not really interested”, and “I don’t think you’ve got the ticket to see it through,” he said.
“He has taken his game, under that sort of pressure with everyone trying to stop him and no one else, it is one of the most extraordinary three years of football I have ever seen.
“He is an all-time great, he is amazing.”
