Gold Coast has again shown it has some of the best young talent in the country with four players named in AFL.com.au’s Under-23 All Australian team for 2014.
Steven May and Tom Lynch are key cogs of the team’s spine, holding down the centre-half back and centre-half forward positions respectively.
GC SUNS Club Champion David Swallow was named as rover in a midfield led by him, Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe as captain and hard-nosed Western Bulldog Tom Liberatore.
Dion Prestia also made the final 22 as first interchange.
13 of the 18 AFL clubs had a player in the final 22 – with the SUNS featuring twice as many players as any other club. Adelaide, Fremantle, Geelong, GWS, Hawthorn and Richmond each had two players in the team.
The Under-23 All Australian team was selected by AFL.com.au reporters and to qualify for the side, players had to be under the age of 23 before the commencement of their club's season. For instance, a player born on March 15 (the club's round one opener kicked off on March 14) would not be eligible for the team.
The quartet’s selection comes a week after six SUNS were named in the fan-voted AFLPA 22Under22 side last week.
