There have been some questions asked of Gary Ablett’s form over the past month, however most were answered within a few minutes of the opening bounce this afternoon with the Gold Coast SUNS skipper leading his side on a Giant killing spree in perfect conditions on the Gold Coast.

The skipper was in inspired form during the GC SUNS record breaking 83 point demolition of fellow expansion team rivals, delivering a performance sure to earn him three crucial Brownlow medal votes in the final match of the regular season.

The SUNS superstar finished the game with an equal game-high 33 disposals, five marks, six clearances and with four goals to sit alongside Andrew Boston on top of the score sheet

While the Gold Coast skipper would love to be preparing for the finals next weekend, there was certainly a look of satisfaction on his face as he attended the post match press conference with Coach Guy McKenna, Ablett speaking about the tremendous growth around the playing group and the groups eagerness to aim even higher next season.

“I’m really proud of the way the boys have gone out and competed this year, with only four or five of our games where determined by a few goals.

“Hopefully we’re not too far away from playing finals footy.”

The Gold Coast Coasters finished with 8 wins in 2013 eclipsing the three games won during their inaugural season and in 2012.

Ablett saying the added year of AFL Premiership experience had been instrumental in changing the team’s competitive streak in 2013.

“I think the experience has been great for our group.”

“We had a fantastic pre-season, and been able to get more run in the legs and the more games we continue to play the better we’ll get.”

Despite being the raging favourite to take home his second Charles, the 252-game midfielder refused to buy in to the discussion.

“I’m not even thinking about it.”

Ablett is also favourite to claim his third consecutive Gold Coast SUNS Club Champion trophy when the Clubs awarde ceremony is held at Southport Sharks next Friday night.
