New Gold Coast SUNS recruit, Greg Broughton was the 'King of the Mountain' after the players conquered the Grand Canyon on Day 3 of the 2XU High Performance Training Camp in Arizona.

Broughton completed the trek in a time of four hours and 35 minutes, which was a "a fantastic effort" according to Football Operations GM Marcus Ashcroft.

Henry Schade, who has yet to make his debut for the GC SUNS was another to impress, finishing only a couple of minutes behind Broughton.

“Those two guys were super impressive on a really tough day,” said Ashcroft.

In the GC SUNS most physical and mental test to date, the players gave it their all, and assistant coach Matthew Primus was full of admiration for the boys desire to complete the task.

"I have been very impressed with the boys efforts," said Primus.

“It's certainly pretty solid, and footy doesn't get any harder than this.”

Primus was particularly impressed with 17 year old Jack Martin and 18 year old Clay Cameron who have commenced their first pre-seasons in the AFL.

"They have conducted themselves really well," he said.

“This pre-season and the next two weeks will stand them in really good stead for the rest of the summer.”

"Clay in particular went really hard, and will be feeling the effects of it tomorrow."

Another of the new GC SUNS recruit Tom Murphy took Cameron under his wing, and Murphy says the mental barrier is the one the players need to overcome.

"Everyone is having a chat to the man inside their head saying stop," said Murphy.

“You just have to get in a rhythm and just keep ticking away.”

Cameron was thankful to get some good advice from Murphy throughout the trek.

"It is good to get some pointers from someone who has been in the system for eight or nine years," he said.

"Seeing him push through it made it all better."

Second year GC SUNS, but first time Arizona camper Aaron Hall tried to focus on other things to help push him through.

“Beautiful scenery, a bit better than what is back in Tassie,” he said.
