It was a memorable night for Queenslanders Andrew Boston and Alex Sexton at Metricon Stadium on Saturday

Boston, who grew up playing junior footy for local club Broadbeach, played his first full AFL match in front of family and friends on the Gold Coast over the weekend, and made the most of his eleven disposal as a half-forward flanker – with only Campbell Brown, Gary Ablett and Harley Bennell having more inside-50 entries than the local AFL player.

Speaking to reporters at Metricon Stadium on Tuesday, the Gold Coaster said it was great to taste a victory for the first time after three consecutive appearances in the red and gold colours.

“Yeah it was a great win for the club, and everyone was really excited,” he said.

“First couple of games I was starting as the substitute and it was more about learning the game and getting used to it all.

“But to notch the first win was amazing.”

19-year-old Sexton endorsed his team mate’s at the press conference, and hoped he’d be given an opportunity to test the Blues outfit after starting with the green vest against the Magpies.

“It was an unbelievable win and I can’t wait to be in the mix again,” Sexton said.

“Obviously it was my first win at the club, and hopefully I can back that up against Carlton this week.”
