Having been guided to a Premiership flag under the master coach, Dean Solomon knows firsthand Greater Western Sydney will stop at nothing this weekend to send Kevin Sheedy off with a memorable victory on the Gold Coast.
Part of Essendon’s 2000 Premiership team, Solomon tasted the ultimate success under Sheedy’s during his 27 year reign as Bombers head coach.
Solomon said the GC SUNS were bracing for an emotionally-charged Giants team.
“Kevin Sheedy’s last game and he has been such a pioneer of the game so they’re going to be coming up here looking for the win,” Solomon said.
“We have to be on our game and it’s important for us to get the win so we can roll into the pre-season with confidence.”
Despite being hot favourites to defeat the bottom-ranked Giants, the GC SUNS are taking nothing for granted this weekend.
Conceding a loss would not be the ideal finish to the Club’s stand-out year, Solomon said the up-side for 2013 had been significant.
“We think we have improved, and it would be highly disappointing if we were to finish the season off with a loss,” he said.
“We have seen a lot of improvement in this group and we know we are not there yet.
“Going forward it’s critical we get the win, and we have a process to do that.”
