For demonstrating great leadership and training excellence, Sep Tape has been voted by his Gold Coast SUNS teammates as the best performer at the Club’s third annual 2XU High Performance Camp in Arizona.
Elected captain for Team Relentless, Tape led his player group through the camp’s most challenging activities, including the relentless treks through the Grand Canyon and Mt. Humphreys.
Bulky midfielder Jesse Lonergan, Aaron Hall and club skipper Gary Ablett were among the players for Team Relentless.
Respected around the club for his “blue collar” approach to football, GC SUNS conditioning coach Max Kennedy said Tape was the player’s obvious choice.
“Deservedly, Seb won the award for best player at the altitude camp and was probably the most consistent trainer on the paddock,” he said.
“He just trains with a blue collar spirit, and is a great leader among the playing group.”
As a reward for his dedication to the high altitude camp, Tape pocketed a single Virgin Australia Business upgrade out of Los Angeles to Brisbane International Airport.
The award is expected to give the key defender a massive boost of confidence, after the South Australian worked his way back into the AFL system following a 12-month rehabilitated ACL injury.
“His body is feeling good, and I think he is able to gain a lot of confidence out of the trip,” Kennedy said.
“He has always maintained a workmanlike attitude, and delivered understated leadership because of his quiet nature.”
“He might not be perceived as one of the stars of the competition yet, but he walks the walk.”
